a beautiful beginning: Mia Marie’s birth story.

sunday night 3:39am text from my sister brittany: heading to the hospital:-)will call when checked in. 3:42 bring your camera and ali. 3:50am i’m 4-5 min apart. at triage, let you know if we even stay. 4:00am text from brian in response to me asking how’s she’s laboring: talking through contractions, getting louder, not quiet. (which means she should still be around 4-5 cm which is what she actually was when she checked in) 4:23am come up! 10 cm! 4:27 BABY IS HERE!!!!! 7.9lbs 4:30am. brittany went natural, not by choice!

holy crap. as you can imagine when i was woken up i was first in disbelief because just a handful of hours earlier i was with bk4 and britt was showing no signs of labor. but we joked because the other two girls were born exactly 1 week before their due date, and if she didn’t have that baby by monday night she’d be pissed. i laid in bed thinking she’s got time, i probably have an hour before i even need to get up. i decided to get up, pack and eat something just in case, and that’s when brian said she was 10cm. i totally called him a jerk and said he wasn’t funny for lying. but his texts were getting more convincing, so i grabbed nori out of her crib, kissed adam goodbye and sped to ali’s house. i was still swearing the whole car ride that there is NO WAY she checked in a 4cm and had the baby 27 min later. sure enough, there was a baby in the room! and not to my surprise, it was another girl. the 5th granddaughter for my parents. now it’s up to ali and i to have a boy!

britt told me she only had like 6 (HARD!) contractions from check in, to baby in arms. she literally put on her gown, went to the bathroom before she settled for her epidural when she realized these contractions were STRONG and the pressure was nothing like she’d ever felt. she told the nurse she was moving fast. as she sat on the bed on her side, the nurse checked her at full dialation!! as she, i’m sure ever so sweetly, said she really wanted that epidural before she moved on, she felt the pressure even stronger. she had to push. her dr. wasn’t even there yet, but she didn’t care. with a team of nurses, and still on her side, she pushed. BAM. just like that, her baby girl flew out of her. in a short 3 hrs of L&D, mia marie klems, bk5, was here.

ali and i were super bummed because we were allowed in the room for this delivery!! figures, it didn’t work out. but i’m so so so proud of birttany. whenever she told me i was crazy for wanting a natural delivery, i always responded, you’d be surprised on how much your body can do, YOU COULD DO IT TOO! she’d laugh. well now she’s one up on me. ha! L&D is so unpredictable, you just never ever know. i so wish i could have been there to witness her awesomeness!

you’ll see in the slideshow that the 2 big sister’s came up once they were settled in post pardum. they weren’t exactly sure, but still excited. especially happy when they found out baby sister brought them gifts!:)we are so happy you’re here and healthy mia! she joined the group of monkeys perfectly: ella mozarella, anna banana, nori cacciatore, olivia (livers) activia, and now mia tortilla! enjoy the show.:)

another one of my BB mama’s has been laboring all day. just waiting for the call to come up! yay babies!

peace, aunt melanie.

Ok-so I cried thru this whole thing-these are so precious! The music is perfect and so is little Miss Mia! Mel you have managed to capture the wonder in Ella’s and Anna’s eyes as they see their sister for the first time and the love from Mommy, Daddy and the rest of the family! Obviously it was a special moment for all and emotional for missing Grandpa. But Mia and her sisters and cousins now have a special angel watching over them. The photos are beautiful and thank you all for sharing the birth of another family member! Brian-I must comment on the black feet:having Mia shagging balls on the field when she’s just hours old is unique! You may get your baseball team after all-it will just be an all-girl team!! Love from Columbus-can’t wait see everyone! Uncle Roger & Aunt Net
