payton’s birth was one of the quickest birth’s i experienced last year. just as you will read, i was barely there before she started pushing. we couldn’t believe she progressed so quick! looking back, my favorite part about this birth was all the emotion. maura is very close with her family and it was clear when they greeted this little beauty how excited they all were. i loved it. thanks for taking me back to the day through your words! payton is just as cute as can be now! love melanie.

After a couple weeks of on and off contractions and pure exhaustion….the Dr.’s scheduled me to come in and get induced. I can’t even explain the anticipation Rob and I had because this is something we had been waiting for since the day we married. **We both had daughters from previous relationships and thought it would be easy to get pregnant when we wanted to. Well…after over a year of marriage we were finally pregnant!!! We were so excited not only for us but for our daughters also! Approx. 10 weeks into it, we had a miscarriage and lost the baby. We decided to take a little time off because we were devastated. After four years of marriage…Rob and I finally came to peace with the fact we may not have any more children. But….I wanted some answers, so I started to see my doctor and had just gotten some initial tests done when one month later…..we were pregnant! So…..when walking into the hospital on that Monday morning we were so nervous that something could go wrong (I think every parent feels that way until you actually see that your baby is ok). Everything went very smoothly…..they hooked me up to all the medication around 9:30 a.m. shortly after I sat and thought to myself….hmmm this isn’t that bad?! You see that weekend my contractions were constant and pretty intense so what I was feeling in the hospital seemed similar. When the doctor came in and did her initial check I was already 3 cm! I watched the monitor as I contractions came and went and thought to myself maybe I don’t need an epideral??!! I called my family and told them to come up because things were moving at this point and they started to venture up to the hospital. I updated Melanie with where I stood and told her she may want to leave shortly. Then….out of nowhere…..the pain!!!!!!! (I don’t know if you should include this but it’s the truth) I felt like I had to go to the bathroom nonstop! Apparently that is because I was progressing so quickly. It was probably 1-:30-11 at this point, I’m not sure, and the nurse checked me. I was already 6 cm! As I clenched the bedrails I decided I was ready for the epidural. I had to make that decision quick because I was getting to the point to where I wouldn’t be able to get it. So, of course Rob left the room (he is paranoid of needles) and I got the epidural. After 20 minutes or so I was feeling good! At that point my family arrived at the hospital one by one. We chatted for a little bit and I got to spend a little time with Taylor before she was a big sister! I knew everyone was hungry so I sent everyone, including Rob, to go get food before little Payton arrived. At that point Melanie got there and started setting up and snapping some pics. As we were talking I told her I felt a ton of pressure all of the sudden! I went back and forth on whether I should page the nurse. Finally I did. The doctor came in and checked me and I was already fully dilated!!!! They were ready for me to push! So, of course I called Rob to tell him to get his butt up to the room!! We couldn’t believe how quickly I progressed! Rob got up to the room and the pushing began. It felt like an eternity while I was pushing but apparently it went pretty quickly. Rob and Melanie were great support as they gave me encouraging words throughout the process. Finally our beautiful daughter Payton was born and it was just amazing to see her. As the doctor put Payton on me, she looked back and just stared at her daddy. That is a moment I will never forget..png)
