Being a full time photographer means your mind suddenly transitions into only seeing things as they would through your lens. We are constantly thinking lighting, composition, angle, and emotion. It’s impossible to stop this phenomenon from happening. (Also makes it very hard to just “snap a picture”) So when another photographer trusts you to shoot for them, it is a huge compliment. To not have to process where you should be and make sure no moment is being missed, is kind of a hard thing to let go. It added a lot of stress to me as the shooter
, but I’m so glad Kate was able to relax and be present in her birth. Thank you for trusting me Kate!
In fact, Kate had plenty of time to “relax.” Liiiike, almost 48 hrs in the hospital pre baby!! They checked her in Wednesday night at dinner for an overnight induction and it wasn’t until she texted me around 1:15am Thursday night to make my way to Anderson. At that point she had been given her epidural and was about 6cm. They were very anxious, but her and Mark rested the best they could until the baby decided to make HIS debut Friday afternoon at 3:26pm. I was getting nervous as Mark was begging the baby to come so he could leave his “jail cell where he couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat and was confined to this small space.” HA! (eeriely true!) Luke Edward was a teeny little guy weighing in at 6.10lbs and 20″ long. He is super cute, but more importantly, I wonder how much this birth story is foreshadowing his personality!

Where do I even begin to start? From the moment I found out we were expecting, I knew that I wanted a photographer in the room to capture the birth. Based on a referral from a friend, I knew that I was getting an incredible photographer, I did not know that I was going to get such an incredible experience. It is hard to believe that anything could enhance the day for us, but your presence did. I cannot thank you enough for everything. Not only did you capture some of the most beautiful images I have ever seen, but your calm, positive energy helped keep Luke’s birth relaxed and focused – exactly what I wanted. Mark and I are incredibly fortunate to have had you there and we will cherish these images forever. Thank you so so so much for everything you did and if you need a referral any time in the future, I will be happy to tell people of the amazing experience you provided.
